General Summary:

The Superintendent carries out and oversees construction on RFI projects including, but not limited to, fence erection, site work, and environmental controls, executing the critical aspects of construction that require high skill sets and ensuring satisfactory completion of projects. The Superintendent hires and fires employees with proper clearance from the administration. He/she interprets plans and conveys them to crews through job sheets and training. He/she maintains a clean and safe work environment, enforces all RFI policies and procedures, ensures the highest level of workmanship, inspects materials for quality, engages customers to assure their needs are being met, and reports to administration any paperwork that is required (daily reports, timesheets, incident and accident reporting, etc). The Superintendent also coordinates materials, equipment, and personnel on site to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

The following list is meant STRICTLY TO DEMONSTRATE types of tasks a Superintendent hired by RFI may be asked to perform. It is by no means a complete listing of the duties that an RFI Controller carries out. Not all Superintendents engage in every task listed, and not all the tasks assigned to RFI Superintendents are listed.

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, for a Superintendents at RFI, include the following duties:

Essential Functions:

  • Interpret Docs: Interprets plans, schematics, job sheets, and daily work orders to crew leaders/foreman.
  • Underground Utilities: Identifies all utilities before digging; checks with customers, drawings, and One Call.
  • Execution of Work: Communicates with PM and customers, while utilizing job documents to identify SOW, IFC docs, and safe work plan for the completion of projects.
  • Day to Day scheduling - Equipment, Manpower, and Materials: Works with the PM to coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials for the site.
  • Day to Day scheduling—On-Site Activities: Coordinates all work activities on job sites as efficiently as possible with the foreman, considering safety, workmanship, site conditions, customer requests, schedule, etc. Works with PM for workforce needs on a daily/weekly basis to ensure the correct number of workers are scheduled.
  • QA/QC: Inspects materials for defects and reports findings for immediate correction. Directs foreman and/or crews with correct/appropriate installation procedures and methods provided by RFI.
  • RFI Compliance: Abides by and enforces all RFI policies and procedures. Ensures that job sites, company vehicles, and machines are clean and that tools are organized.
  • Tool Usage: Correctly and safely uses power/hand tools, equipment, and vehicles—and directs others to properly do so.
  • Equipment Concerns: Reports to Shop Manager any equipment or vehicle issues through text or email, including pictures and detailed descriptions.
  • Execution of Work: Engages in skill sets that foreman, laborers, and installers are not capable of performing to ensure proper installation.
  • Job Site Compliance: If required, cordons off all work areas at day end with proper markings.
  • HR Issues: Addresses any personnel concerns directly with the employee at the onset of the situation. If the problem continues, Supervisor discusses concerns with Human Resources. After due diligence, if problems persist, Supervisors/PM must take further action.
  • Daily Reporting: Accurately completes and hands in daily timesheets and other daily reports for work performed and/or other records required for a specific site.
  • RFI/Change Orders: Notifies PM of any changes in SOW and helps with requesting information or change orders.
  • Job Site Reviews: Addresses concerns about jobs with management for higher accuracy in future bidding.
  • Evaluations: Evaluates crew leaders, foremen, and laborers.
  • Other Reporting: Performs and/or ensures that completion of forms by all responsible employees, for equipment inspections, safety inspections, and project closeouts.
  • Job Site Compliance General: Becomes familiarized with job-site-specific details to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • JSEAs/Toolbox Talks: Performs these responsibilities each morning at the job site to identify hazards and to mitigate risks.
  • Quality Inspection Plan: Uses forms as a checklist to ensure quality during critical activities. Designates each job site’s "tier level" of quality, to determine the requirements.
  • Employees Discipline: Disciplines employees for non-adherence to policies/procedures.
  • Lay-off of Employees: Completes measures for laying off employees at the completion of projects.
  • Fire Employees: Presents employees with notice of termination, researches any legal issues associated with termination, executes termination, and handles post-termination dealings.
  • Closeout of projects: Photographs finished projects; completes exit forms; conducts walk downs; and punches lists.
  • Customer meetings: Sets up and facilitates customer meetings.
  • Inspections of tools and equipment: Removes broken or altered tools/equipment for service and/or safety reasons.

Secondary Functions:

Secondary functions include tasks that the Supervisor may have to perform. Again, this list is illustrative ONLY.

  • May work from heights using ladders.
  • May handle dangerous material including barbed wire and Constantine wire (razor ribbon).
  • May perform regular general maintenance on company tools, machines, and vehicles.
  • May perform various labor tasks including post hole digging, shoveling, raking/seeding, disposing of site waste, securing of the site, etc.
  • Will inspect (when applicable) that vehicles and trailers are loaded with correct tools and materials before leaving the yard or job site (ultimate responsibility of foreman/drivers)
  • Will ensure that RFI signage is properly displayed when at all possible.
  • Will conduct daily morning tailgate and safety meeting to review the work for the day and record on the proper form.
  • At day end, will ensure that all tools and materials not needed for the following day be unloaded from trucks and trailers and any materials or tools left for the following day are properly covered and protected.
  • Utilize time at the yard in morning constructively and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Abides by RFI company policies and installation procedures as laid out in the RFI Handbook.
  • Abides by company policies and installation procedures of all other contractors that RFI is serving/working with.
  • Arrives at office/yard on time when scheduled for work.
  • Wears proper Personal Protective Equipment and RFI uniform at all times.
  • Greets homeowners, customers and fellow contractors in a friendly, sincere and professional manner.
  • Respects fellow employees/co-workers.
  • Respects company property such as vehicles, tools, equipment, etc., and the property of fellow contractors and owners/customers.
  • Reports daily hours and files daily reports with the administration.
  • Executes a multitude of physically taxing assignments.
  • Maintains “good housekeeping” practices onsite and at RFI headquarters, including the daily inventory of tools, disposal of site waste, etc.
  • Diligently follows safety and incident reporting procedures of RFI and associated contractors.
  • Quarterly reporting of employee’s performance.

Qualifications (Include but are not limited to):

  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Several years of experience at building/fabricating fence structures at the highest skill levels.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and shoulder a multitude of responsibilities.
  • Ability to supervise crews to ensure high quality of workmanship and a healthy team environment.
  • Ability to engage customers/associated contractors to ensure that the needs of all parties are satisfactorily met as well as negotiate the best terms for both parties.
  • Ability to consistently comply with and meet RFI attendance schedule.
  • Solid work history.
  • Ability to focus on safety first.
  • Commitment to quality work and customer service.
  • Valid PA driver’s license.
  • Ability to work long hours during busy times.

Work Context:

  • Job locations for residential work can be up to approximately 30 miles from headquarters and up to approximately 200 miles away for commercial work.

Salary Range:

  • Varies based on experience and qualifications.
